Content
• Input sessions based upon specifications for
the DELTA produced by the University of
Cambridge covering: language awareness, the
background to teaching and learning, resources
and materials, working in the classroom,
evaluation, monitoring and assessment, and
professional development
• Supervised practice teaching assignment (PTAs)
with adult students
• Reading and research
• Written course assignments
• Lesson observation tutorials - preceding and
following the assignment.
Outcomes
You can expect that in gaining this
post-graduate Diploma you will have developed a
greater and more rounded practical and
theoretical knowledge of the teaching of
English. You will also have gained a new
confidence from critical examination of your own
experience and from exploring new areas of
language and methodology.
Assessment
Candidates are assessed internally and
externally. There are 3 components of
assessment:
1. Course work: Seven assignments involving
reading and research, essay writing, lesson
planning, teaching and written self-evaluation
plus two written assignments
2. An externally assessed case study
3. A written exam (in June)

Entry
Requirements

The DELTA is a University of Cambridge ESOL
validated course.
The entry requirements
are:
Education
The Diploma is a post-graduate qualification and
candidates are usually university graduates or
qualified teachers. The requirement is that
candidates should have a standard of education
equivalent to that required for entry into
higher education and they will normally have
undertaken some formal course of practical
training at pre-service or in-service level.
Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of two years'
(1,200 hours) teaching experience within the
last five years. They will normally have a range
of experience involving teaching different
levels and in different contexts.
English level
Applicants must have an awareness of language
and a competence in English, both written and
spoken that enables them to follow the course
and complete all assessed elements. ILA will
conduct assessment when necessary.
Application
Procedure

Before being enrolled, all applicants need to
successfully complete an application task. If
the application is acceptable, you will have an
interview with a course tutor by phone. |
