English Programmes for Children

ILA
Jumpstart is a three level programme designed for
children between the ages of 4 and 6.5. The course
is designed to give students a solid foundation in
listening and speaking English. As well students will
be introduced to “computing in English” through |
|
interactive CD programmes and a creative “Arts in
English” programme.
Each ILA Jumpstart programme consists of 148 hours of
English instruction in two parts, each 74 hours in duration.
|
| |
ILA Instructors |
As this age is so important for developing a native
like accent students in these classes will spend time
working on pronunciation skills. This will be done through
games, competitions, drills and activities. We want
our students to complete our courses not only with the
ability to communicate in English but to do so with
an accent that resembles a native English speaker.
Each class will be directed by a native English speaking
instructor and be supported by two bi-lingual Vietnamese
teaching assistants. Students not only have access to
a native speaker but also have the support of a Vietnamese
speaking teacher to provide them with any further support
or guidance.
|
| |
Effective Communicative Teaching Methodology |
Students who complete the three levels of the programme
will have had 444 hours of English tuition with a native
speaker, and be able to function in many settings and
situations. This will give them the knowledge, skill
and confidence to go on and complete the rest of ILA’s
Juniors Programmes.
Students will learn English through:
- Songs and activities
- Games
- Role-plays
- Team orientated activities
- Discussions
- Mingling activities
- Brainstorming sessions
- Use of multi media facilities
- Art and craft
- Computing in English
Students who complete any of the three levels in the
Jumpstart Programme, and are eligible for our Juniors
programme may then go on to a suitable level within
the Juniors programme.

ILA Juniors
is a high quality, stimulating English Programme for
children aged from 6 to 11 years old. Our Juniors
Programme at ILA has been designed to give our students
a broad base of skills, which we achieve through a
focus on the four skills, reading, writing, listening
and |
|
speaking. But given the importance of clear speech,
our Juniors Programme here at ILA particularly focuses
on pronunciation. We want our students to complete our
courses not only with the ability to successfully communicate
in English but to do so with an accent that resembles
that of a native speaker.
|
| |
ILA Instructors |
Our teachers from America, Australia, Canada, England
and New Zealand all have internationally recognized
qualifications and their skills are regularly updated
by our in house experts through workshops and training
sessions. The methods we use in the classroom are designed
to ensure that our students are communicating and interacting
in English at every step.
Every class has a native English instructor and a Vietnamese
bi-lingual teaching assistant. Children not only have
a teacher that can model a native accent but they also
have the security of an instructor who can communicate
in both languages if the need arises for further explanation
of terms or situations. By utilizing this style of teaching
we ensure that our students understand the content of
the course and can readily access a native speaker to
model language from.
|
| |
Effective Communicative Teaching Methodology |
Our instructors are trained in the most current communicative
methods and teach English on the Juniors Programme through:
- Songs and activities
- Games
- Role-plays
- Group work and pair work
- Team orientated activities
- Discussions
- Mingling activities
- Brainstorming sessions
- Use of multi media facilities
- Individual presentations
These and many other communicative activities guarantee
to have our students actively using English in the classroom.
At ILA Juniors we have created a fun learning environment
specifically aimed at 6-11 year olds using methods that
give our students the opportunity to speak like a native
speaker whilst having an enjoyable English experience.
ILA instructors not only provide
interesting, effective and enjoyable lessons but also
provide countless activities and tasks to ensure that
our students develop their fluency in English during
class time. Tasks that allow our students English talk
time are the norm for all classes and our teachers are
adept in stimulating even the most reserved of children
to communicate in English. As our classes are designed
to have our students talking, the improvement of fluency
at the end of the course is one of our goals.
Instructors may also provide students
with some out of class work, normally in line with the
current topics in class to encourage use of language
external to the classroom. This may take the form of
practising the numerous songs and dialogues within the
text or could be the completion of exercises from the
workbook.
|
| |
Learning and Teaching Materials |
The Juniors Programme at ILA currently uses the enormously
successful Sesame Street Series of books. These books
follow the adventures of the Sesame Street characters
from the internationally renowned television program
of the same name. These texts afford students the opportunity
to follow the same characters throughout 5 levels, creating
a comfortable sense of familiarity with all the books
and minimal amounts of disruption as students go from
one level to the next.
The Sesame Street texts are adorned with vibrant eye-catching
illustrations and present topics that appeal to, stimulate
and challenge young children. Along with the textbook,
each student receives a student book, a workbook, a
cassette tape and a tape script. This material forms
the core of the syllabus and is supplemented by teachers
from an extensive range of supplementary material available
to our teachers in our teachers’ resource library.
|
| |
Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) |
Also available to our Juniors Programme students is
the ILA computer laboratory, a modern well-resourced
computer laboratory sourced with the most current and
educationally renowned software from around the world.
Our instructors, who are specifically trained in methods
utilising technology, provide an environment where our
students can practise their listening and pronunciation
skills using programmes and technology designed to challenge
and stimulate young minds. This most modern addition
to language teaching is currently at the forefront of
contemporary teaching methods and is recognized as a
highly successful medium, especially so with young learners.
|
| |
Regular Feedback Between Staff and Parents |
ILA understands that parents have invested considerable
time and money into the education of their children.
We here at ILA take our responsibilities extremely seriously
and are in constant touch with parents and concerned
parties. Contact is initiated and maintained through
our teaching assistants who are in class at all times
and, as part of their role, serve as a communicator
between parents and the native teacher as well as the
administrators of the department.
Every month parents receive a detailed assessment of
their child’s performance in the form of individualized
comments written by both the native instructor as well
as the teaching assistant.
Parents can follow the progress of their child throughout
the course and be kept up to date with any news related
to their child’s learning.
Parents are afforded the opportunity to contact the
teaching assistant at any time to attain any information
on their child’s performance outside of the normal series
of communiqués.
|
| |
Regular Assessment |
Accompanying the comments parents receive in the report
books is the periodic reporting of test scores that
students received in class. As part of ILA’s assurance
to guarantee quality and ensure our students progress,
we regularly assess our students performance using both
in house exams as well as exams based on the internationally
recognized Cambridge exams.
The series of exams that we have instilled within our
courses tests all the skills at different times. This
allows us the opportunity to not only give parents immediate
feedback on their child’s performance but also to identify
students that are experiencing difficulties with any
skills. This affords the teacher the opportunity to
individualize methods and ensures all students are achieving
to their full potential.
|
| |
ILA Course Certificates |
A certificate is awarded to students on the successful
completion of the course and is given to students at
an in class awards’ ceremony. This certificate can be
used to verify a student’s English skill.
Students’ achievements at ILA are recognized unreservedly
as we strive to maintain a sense of motivation and accomplishment
at the end of each course. Our awards ceremonies are
normally followed by an in class party and games and
activities to celebrate the conclusion of the course.
|
| |
Cambridge Examinations |
On completion of some courses the teacher of the class
may, on the basis of students test scores, recommend
some to take a Cambridge examination. ILA arranges and
coordinates the Cambridge examinations for these students
who have performed well in course levels, 1,2,3 and
5. These exams, Starters, Movers, Flyers and KET, from
Cambridge University are recognized around the world
as being accurate indicators of ability and the advanced
level exams are commonly used as indicators for employers
when selecting recruits.
